What you get
The Courtland Grand Hotel lists the full apparatus of a four star city hotel: an indoor pool and a separate swimming pool, a fitness center, restaurants and bars, a banquet floor and a concierge. Rooms come with air conditioning, a bath or shower, a bathrobe, a hairdryer, toiletries, a refrigerator, a coffee setup, a desk, a safe, an iron and board, a TV and a telephone. The hotel adds free wifi, 24 hour front desk and security, an ATM, currency exchange, luggage storage, laundry and dry cleaning, valet parking, a garage, lifts and wheelchair access. Breakfast is listed, as are family rooms and cots. The list is thinner on outdoor space and self catering: there is no kitchen or kitchenette.
For a visitor, the Courtland Grand Hotel reads as a working hotel rather than a retreat. You get the indoor pool for a rainy afternoon, the gym for a morning, and a restaurant and bar on site so you do not have to leave the building for dinner. The Sweet Auburn address puts you 0.5 km from the centre of Sweet Auburn, with King Memorial on the Blue/Green line for getting around and a trail 0.4 mi away. That combination suits convention attendees, families with children and anyone who wants services under one roof. It does not suit you if you want a small, quiet property with character, or if you plan to cook for yourself.

Where it puts you
These hotels sit in Sweet Auburn, on the east side of town, with the King birth home, Ebenezer Baptist and the curb market inside four blocks. The rail connection is King Memorial, Blue/Green, which puts the rest of the city within reach without a car. The BeltLine is close too: the trail is a short hop from these doors, and the site logs the address at 0.9 on the BeltLine.
Daytime here is walkable and dense with history. After dark it goes quiet, and the quiet suits some travellers and not others. If you want nightlife outside your door, this is the wrong pocket of the city. If you want the civil rights district on foot and a straightforward train ride to everything else, it works. Couples and solo travellers here for the history get the most out of it; groups chasing bars should look elsewhere.
Booking it
Book the Courtland Grand Hotel directly if you want the pool, gym and restaurants locked in before you arrive. Most rooms here can be cancelled free, and you book them through app.impt.io. Every confirmed booking removes one tonne of CO2, at no extra cost to you. Five percent of what you pay comes back as IMPT credit, out of the hotel commission rather than added to your bill.
