Twenty-four ways to sleep on the loop.

Every neighbourhood we would actually sleep in, in loop order from mile 0: what each one is for, the nearest rail station, and how far you are from paved BeltLine. Rates are here too, as a rough guide, not a ranking, because in this city they move with the calendar.

Downtown Mile 0.0 · Inside the loop The cheapest walk to a train in the city. Convention traffic sets the price, so a Tuesday in January is a different hotel than a Tuesday in October. Five Points · all lines 0.8 mi to trail Typically $118 Sweet Auburn Mile 0.9 · East The King birth home, Ebenezer Baptist and the curb market inside four blocks. Quiet after dark in a way that suits some travellers and not others. King Memorial · Blue/Green 0.4 mi to trail Typically $127 Old Fourth Ward Mile 2.1 · East Ponce City Market, the skate park and the best stretch of the Eastside Trail. You pay for the address and you actually use it. No rail · trail + bus Trail at the door Typically $149 Inman Park Mile 3.0 · East Victorian porches, big trees, a MARTA station and the trail. The most expensive comfortable choice on the east side. Small stock, book early. Inman Park · 15 min walk Trail at the door Typically $134 Reynoldstown Mile 4.3 · Southeast The quieter half of the Krog corridor. Newer rooms, lower rates than Inman Park, the same short walk to the trail crowd. Inman Park · Blue Trail at the door Typically $131 Grant Park Mile 5.4 · Southeast The zoo, the Cyclorama and the best Sunday farmers market in the city. Families end up here and stay put. West End · 15 min Trail at the door Typically $102 Bankhead Mile 13.2 · Northwest The lowest median on the loop and a Green line station. Thin on places to eat, plan to travel for dinner. Bankhead · Green 0.7 mi to trail Typically $96 West Midtown Mile 15.0 · Northwest Warehouses turned into design shops and the densest good eating in the city. No train, and you feel it at rush hour. Tech Square · Red/Gold 1.0 mi to trail Typically $124 Midtown Mile 17.6 · North The default answer, and usually the right one: two rail stations, the park, the High, and the trail four blocks east. Midtown · Red/Gold 0.4 mi to trail Typically $142 Piedmont Park Mile 18.3 · Northeast The most expensive mile on the loop. You are paying for two hundred acres of grass and the skyline behind it. Midtown · 12 min Trail at the door Typically $158 Virginia-Highland Mile 19.1 · Northeast Bungalow blocks and a walkable village of bars. Almost no hotels, mostly short-let rooms, so book well ahead. Decatur · Blue/Green Off the loop Typically $139 College Park Mile ATL · Airport The cheapest bed in metro Atlanta and sixteen minutes by train to Five Points. Right for an early flight, wrong for a holiday. Airport · Red/Gold Off the loop Typically $94

24 bases on and around the loop, in loop order. The rate beside each one is a typical mid-week double from our own weekly checks, before roughly 16% lodging tax and before parking, it is a guide to where a neighbourhood sits, not a quote. In Atlanta the same room swings with the convention calendar and the football schedule far more than it does between neighbourhoods, so price your own dates before you decide on an address.
