What you get
Checkmate is a four star property on Greenwood Avenue Northeast built around a working kitchen: oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, coffee, and a washing machine and iron for longer stays. You also get air conditioning, a private bathroom with a bath, towels, a hairdryer, a desk, a TV, free wifi, free car parking, a patio and non smoking rooms, plus first aid and pets allowed. The list is thin on hotel service rather than on equipment. There is no restaurant, no bar and no reception desk in what is listed, so you are running the place yourself.
What that adds up to at Checkmate is an apartment with the practical things handled: you cook, you wash, you park, you take the dog, and the trail is at the door while buses cover the ground that rail does not. Poncey-Highland is 0.6 km from the centre of Poncey-Highland, close enough to walk in for food and drink. This suits a longer stay, a car, or a pet. It does not suit anyone who wants daily housekeeping, a concierge, or to step off a plane and be looked after.

You are in Poncey-Highland, on the east side of town, and the neighbourhood sits between the Clermont and Ponce City Market. The site's own line is that this is the most useful hundred yards in Atlanta if you plan to walk everywhere, and that is the honest summary: a stay here is built around leaving the car parked.
There is no rail, so getting around means the trail and the bus. The trail is at the door, which puts the BeltLine path within reach the moment you step outside, and the bus covers the rest. That combination suits anyone who wants to walk and ride and does not mind missing a train station. It suits a trip spent on foot between the two anchors either side of you, and it does not suit anyone who wants a rail connection or a quiet residential base away from the traffic.
Booking it
Book Checkmate if you want the whole apartment and not a hotel room, since the kitchen, the washing machine and the parking space are the point of the place. Most rooms here can be cancelled free, and you book them through app.impt.io. Every confirmed booking removes one tonne of CO2, at no extra cost to you.
